Project 885 Yasen nuclear-powered guided missile submarine (SSGN) Severodvinsk will be commissioned into Russian Navy in 2012 after manufacturing of homing torpedoes, said a source in Russian defense industry on Jan 26.

SSGN Severodvinsk was not commissioned last year because of frustrated manufacturing of her arms, primarily, homing torpedoes, explained the source.

"Responsibility for non-fulfillment of defense contract commitments as of torpedo deliveries in 2011 is upon JSC Dagdiesel (Kaspiysk)", said the source.

"Earlier on, there were problems with cruise missiles for the sub, but now they are almost resolved. The submarine herself is okay and has passed shipyard's sea trials long ago, Sevmash worked well. What holds things up is production of torpedoes; when they're made and pass trials, SSGN Severodvinsk will join the Navy", pointed out the source.

"We're tasked to deliver the sub to the Navy this year", he concluded.
