Rogozin: Russia to Draw Out Seapower Buildup Plan in June 06.02.2012

It is planned to develop a 30-year detailed Russian seapower buildup plan by June 2012, vice premier Dmitry Rogozin twitted on Feb 5.

"Russian seapower buildup plan for 30-year period will be drawn out by June 2012. The decision has been already made", wrote Rogozin answering a user's question whether Russian Navy would develop and what programs Russia had in this area.

State Arms Program 2011-2020 provides about RUR 4.7 trillions for Navy re-equipment. Federal budget allocated RUR 85 bln in 2011 for construction of nuclear-powered submarines, frigates, ship repair and maintenance; in the current year, this sum exceeds RUR 93 bln.

As is planned, submarine force will remain key component of Russia's seapower. In the nearest years, it will receive two types of nuclear submarines and two types of conventional ones. First of all, it is Borei-class strategic subs armed with newest submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM) Bulava. In total, it is planned to build eight submarines of this class. The first one – SSBN Yury Dolgoruky – is presently passing sea trials, other three are under construction.
