Traditional military honors ritual took place in Novorossiysk near Eternal Flame on the Alley of Heroes. Honors were paid to fallen participants of legendary marine landing party headed by Maj Caesar Kunikov and captured the Malaya Zemlya beach-head during the Great Patriotic War.

Sailor's Cap 2012 Military Patriotic Action Held in Novorossiysk

Two torches were lightened by the Eternal Flame. The first one was delivered to the coast of Yuzhnaya Ozereyevka escorted by Honor Guard of airborne troopers. Sailors of Black Sea Fleet (BSF) Naval Base Novorossiysk mounted the second one on an armored personnel carrier which headed the column of servicemen and WW2 veterans paraded to the Malaya Zemlya.
The commemoration meeting and wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Malaya Zemlya Memorial; then members of local historical clubs and military servicemen participated in re-enactment of the legendary Kunikov's landing assault operation.
Later on, a mourning wreath and a sailor's cap were laid on the sea near Yuzhnaya Ozereyevka.
The Sailor's Cap military patriotic action has being annually conducted in the Hero City of Novorossiysk for over 40 years in commemoration of events happened in Feb 3-4, 1943 when a 270-men landing party led by Maj Caesar Kunikov landed on the coast of Tsymesskaya Bay captured by Germans.
