Two Nuclear Subs to Join Russian Navy in 2012
20.02.2012
Two nuclear-powered submarines – SSBN Yury Dolgoruky and SSBN Alexander Nevsky – will be commissioned into Russian Navy in the summer of 2012, said deputy defense minister Alexander Sukhorukov on Feb 19.
"Currently, the presidential decree putting SLBM Bulava into service is being prepared", said Sukhorukov visiting JSC Uralvagonzavod, reports Interfax.
SSBN Alexander Nevsky started sea trials in Oct 2011. It is planned to commission the submarine in the summer of 2012.
SSBN Yury Dolgoruky left covered slipway of Sevmash shipyard in May 2011 where it had passed "preparation for final stages of state sea trials". In mid-June, the sub had finished alpha trials scheduled in 2011.
