Early spring is traditionally a period of drills and exercises for naval units deployed in the Far East.

For officers of Pacific Fleet (PF) main base Vladivostok and cadets of the Makarov Pacific Naval College, this period lasts all year round. Active and future naval officers practice on training simulator Mostik acting as ship's commanding officers.

The simulator was designed by Russian specialists in St. Petersburg and used for training of ship commanding officers and battle station crews. Officers and midshipmen practice navigation of a single ship and a task force.

According to deputy chief of the naval college Capt 1 rank Eduard Moskalenko, software of Mostik simulator makes possible to model navigation in severe weather conditions, straits, when departing or calling at ports. By the way, navigation particularities of all regions worldwide are considered but not only those of the Japanese and Okhotsk seas, said the officer.

Three crews can train on the simulator simultaneously. "The system is multipurpose so that can be used not only by newcomers but experienced 'sea dogs'. One may model navigational and emergency accidents, different kinds of incidents happening at sea", said PF Chief Navigator Capt 1 rank Oleg Morozkin.
