Interior Works in INS Vikramaditya Continue 24-7
12.03.2012
Composite teams work overtime and without weekends finishing interior premises of aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya modernized for Indian Navy by Sevmash shipyard (Severodvinsk, Russia). A special timetable was made up, and quite good recompense is paid, reports the shipyard's press service.
Shipborne furniture in over than 3,000 rooms is being assembled for three months. Finishers pay greater attention on 58 officer cabins.
To meet the schedule, the teams were enlarged; together with outside experts, contractors and auxiliary personnel, each team numbers about 40 men. Scope of furniture assemblage and sound insulation works is large. For instance, one of teams headed by foreman Ivan Kolovertov finishes 187 cabins, storage spaces, crew's quarters, battle stations, medical and cook rooms.
Works have been completed in one of construction areas; furnishing of the ship's mess rooms is also at final stage. According to Sevmash's carpentry director Evgeny Smekhov, "furniture installed in Vikramaditya is fully produced by our yard. It has been already manufactured, and the main thing now is to assemble it on time. We're doing our best to meet the production schedule".
Recall that Project 11430 aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya (former Project 11434 Russian aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Gorshkov) retrofitted for Indian Navy by JSC Sevmash is supposed to be delivered to the customer not later than Dec 4, 2012. The carrier is to start sea trials on May 29, 2012.
