SSBN Omsk Prepares for Modernization

Governor of Omsk region Leonid Polezhayev on March 12 met with Valery Savon, commanding officer of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) Omsk. The submariner told the regional governor about service of the sub's crew at Pacific Fleet while SSBN Omsk passes modernization.
Recall that the Omsk regional government took SSBN Omsk under patronage in 2001. The region provides material support to improve living conditions of the crew. Children of submariners annually pass sanatorium-resort therapy and inpatient examination in medical institutions of Omsk region. Assistance in employment is rendered to retired officers and warrant officers as well.
At present, 30 natives of Omsk region serve in the submarine.
"I informed the governor about condition of the submarine and the crew's service, impact of the military reform on submariners' life. We discussed further plans for cooperation. SSBN Omsk is going to pass complete modernization. Governor Polezhayev asked questions about the sub's status and living conditions of the crewmembers", Capt 1 rank Valery Savon told news agency Tvoi Omsk.
