On the eve of the Submariners' Day, 57-year old Pavel N. Garin living in Chisinau, Moldova found his uncle's name in the list of S-2 crewmen published by Central Navy Portal.

Pavel Garin knew about his uncle from his father, Nikolai V. Garin born in 1919 and went through three wars – the Soviet Finnish War, the Great Patriotic War, and the Soviet-Japanese War. Nikolai named his son after his brother Pavel; the only thing he knew was that Pavel had lost during the war against Finland.

Recall that Soviet submarine S-2 scuppered in Jan 1940 during the Soviet-Finnish War allegedly as a result of collision with mine will be declared military memorial in 2012. Finland is ready to include remains of the submarine lying on the Baltic Sea's bottom in Finnish territorial waters into official list of Soviet military memorials.
