Northern Fleet Pilots Polish Up Flight Skills
11.04.2012
Only within first training shift pilots carried out 10 day and 8 night sorties on Su-33 fighters and Su-25UTG trainers from coastal airfield Severomorsk-3. Total flight time exceeded 20 hours.
NF pilots performed aerobatics, high-altitude target interception drills, and mock air combats. They also practiced use of Su-33 onboard armament, having destroyed 12 dummy targets by 12 air-to-air missiles designed for interception of highly-maneuverable piloted and unmanned aircraft in close air combat.
Pilots of NF fighter wing are top-class professionals. They are the only pilots in the world conducting deck landing on aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov in polar latitudes.
Earlier on, Russian naval pilots had performed 15 flight shifts with about 150 deck landings and target interception drills during the recent long-term deployment of Russian Navy's carrier group.
