Military Procuracy Doubts Defense Ministry Can Control Industry
11.04.2012
Department of Russian Defense Ministry controlling implementation of state defense order would unlikely cope with that mission, says Russia's Judge Advocate General Sergei Fridinsky.
"I think, there are plenty of supervisory authorities in Russia. Each ministry or service has quite enough different kinds of inspections, commissions, interagency or departmental or intrastate groups. Sure, one may establish more, but I don't think this would help", reports RIA Novosti citing Fridinsky.
He emphasized that not amount of controlling authorities but concernment and workability of executors was the most effective thing.
Chief of Russian General Staff Gen. Nikolai Makarov stated in mid-Feb 2012 that defense ministry would found a special department responsible for implementation of state defense order.
In 2011, the military and defense industry spent months disputing about arms costs. Defense ministry said arms were overpriced; in their turn, industrialists insisted the prices were adequate.
The conflict was settled on Nov 9, 2011 when Defense Ministry and United Shipbuilding Corporation in the presence of premier Putin signed contracts for batch production of Yasen-class nuclear submarines and development of technical design for Project 11442 heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser.
