Indonesia to Buy Russian BMP Fighting Vehicles for $100 Mln
18.04.2012
Russia and Indonesia will sign a delivery contract for 37 amphibious fighting vehicles BMP-3F, reports RIA Novosti referring to Viktor Komardin, Deputy Director General of Rosoboronexport. According to him, the agreement will be tied in Apr 2012, and the contract cost will exceed $100 mln. The contract will be implemented under the $1-bln export credit earlier granted to Indonesia by Russia.
"We ask Indonesian partners not to protract conclusion of contracts, since validity of the credit expires in July 2013", Komardin said having added that Indonesia was enjoying another Russian credit as well. Those funds were spent by Indonesian defense ministry for procurement of fighters. Indonesia obtained Russian export credit in 2007. It was planned to spend it for ten Mi-17 transport helicopters, five Mi-35M attack helicopters, twenty BMP-3F amphibious fighting vehicles, and two Project 877 Paltus diesel submarines.
Indonesian newspaper Koran Jakarta wrote late Jan 2012 that in the current year the country would receive 34 BMP-3F specially designed for marines, and later on – other 20 vehicles of that kind. Those fighting vehicles were to be purchased on the credit received in 2007. Later on, Izvestiya wrote referring to an insider that Russia would deliver 60 BMP fighting vehicles to Indonesia within the next two years.
