Northern Fleet (NF) Commander VADM Vladimir Korolev, Deputy Governor of Murmansk region Igor Saburov, and president of Sberbank Northwest Division Alexander Govorunov on Apr 18 congratulated crewmen of nuclear-powered missile cruiser Petr Veliky on the 14-th anniversary of the ensign hoisting. Honorable guests handed over gifts to distinguished crewmembers.

"Cruiser Petr Veliky is one of the mightiest warships in Russian Navy capable to perform assigned tasks worldwide", said Vladimir Korolev in his speech. "I'm glad to know that ace professionals are still on board and make the first crew. And now they're preparing a good shift", he added.

Since her launching, the cruiser has covered tens of thousands of nautical miles, was many times deployed to distant zones and crossed Atlantic and Indian oceans. Being on anti-piracy mission in 2009, the ship's crew prevented capturing of cargo ship MV Ocean Diamond.

Petr Veliky is the fourth Project 1144 Orlan third-generation nuclear-powered missile cruiser. The ship was laid down in 1986 at Baltiysky Zavod shipyard, and commissioned into Northern Fleet in 1998. Except for aircraft carriers, Petr Veliky is the world's largest attack warship which main purpose is destruction of enemy carrier groups. Petr Veliky is the flagship of Northern Fleet.
