BSF Hydrographic Ship Donuzlav Arrived in Monaco 25.04.2012

Having covered 2,500 nautical miles from Sevastopol, Black Sea Fleet (BSF) hydrographic ship Donuzlav called at the port of Monaco to take part in the 18-th International Hydrographic Conference. Russian delegation headed by Alexander Shemetov, Chief of Navigation and Oceanography Dept at Russian Defense Ministry arrived in Monaco on board the BSF ship.

During the cruise, experts of expeditionary hydrographic team and special survey service were conducting oceanographic researches. They have performed bottom contour survey by sounding method and sampled seabed soil. Using hydrological probe, scientists researched water vertical profile at different depths. Navigation equipment was tested in various regions of the Black and the Mediterranean seas.

Upon arrival in Monaco, Russian delegation took part in the conference opening ceremony, exhibitions of present-day navigation and oceanography facilities, presentation of new nautical charts, and discussion of international ocean research program.

Sixty eight countries and 10 international organizations are participating in the hydrographic conference. Among them are International Cartographic Association, Federation of Hydrographic Societies, International Maritime Organization, World Meteorological Organization, etc. The conference will last till Apr 27.
