Over 20 Northern Fleet (NF) surface warships, diesel and nuclear submarines as well as supply vessels are performing combat training tasks in the Barents Sea. They are passing final examinations for winter training period.

"Comparing to analogous period of the last year, intensity and quality of training activities have been considerably increased in 2012", said NF Commander VADM Vladimir Korolev. "Actions of the fleet's forces demonstrate high preparedness for the combat tasks.

Naval aviation, auxiliary vessels, and rescue ships support the NF training activities. Totally, over 3,500 men are involved in the exercise.

The crews practice joint maneuvering, antisubmarine warfare, landing operations, and repelling of air attacks. NF surface ships have carried out about 300 combat drills with practical use of arms including gun, missile, and torpedo firings, mine-laying and mine-sweeping.
