Bal Missile System Demonstrated Unique Capabilities in Caspian Sea
27.04.2012
During the exercise, personnel of command control center detected coordinates of a sea target by radar. The target was located at the distance of 50 km off shore in the Caspian Sea. After comparative analysis of all required data, crews of self-propelled launchers destroyed the target by missile strike. The "enemy target" was imitated by a special ship-type towed screen.
The missile firing was carried out by two Kh-35 antiship cruise missiles.
Missile system Bal is capable to engage targets at the distance up to 120 km, day and night, at any weather conditions. Fire power of Bal missile battalion makes possible to break up mission accomplishment of a large surface strike group, a landing force or a convoy. Launchers can be deployed in covered positions at up to 10 km inland which complicates their detection.
Bal missile system was commissioned into Caspian Flotilla late in 2011.
