French military delegation is visiting Murmansk with the view to discuss the program of French frigate De Grasse at Northern Fleet (NF) main naval base Severomorsk.

French Frigate De Grasse to Call at Severomorsk

The visit of the French ship will be held in June 11-15 under bilateral naval cooperation program. The PACEX-type bilateral exercise will be a result of the visit.
NF representatives and French naval attaché in Russia Eric Fournaud will discuss episodes of the exercise. The parties will talk on water and food replenishment for frigate De Grass and discuss cultural program for the crew in Severomorsk.
Main purpose of PACEX exercises is practicing of interoperability between warships of different sea powers in order to act jointly in crisis regions worldwide. Traditionally, such exercise includes communication and data exchange drills, joint maneuvering, underway transshipment, countering attacks of small-size fast vessels etc.
Russian and French navies held the latest PACEX-type bilateral exercise in 2010. Then Russia was represented by nuclear-powered missile cruiser Petr Veliky visiting Brest which is the French Navy's main base in the Atlantic.
