Being on working trip in St. Petersburg, Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Viktor Chirkov visited Severnoye Design Bureau and familiarized with its research and development works for defense shipbuilding. Then he attended the briefing of the bureau's director Alexander Ushakov reporting on the batch production of frigates and corvettes for Russian Navy.

Recall that JSC Severnoye Design Bureau is one of Russia's leaders in naval ship design. According to the company's website, throughout its 50-year long history Severnoye Design Bureau developed civil ship projects as well. They are refrigerators, trawlers, research ships, dry cargo vessels, tankers, and special-purpose craft.

Totally, over 450 ships have been constructed under the bureau's projects with overall displacement of about 1.5 mln tons.
