Leningrad Naval Base command and the crew of training ship Perekop rendered all needed assistance to the family of sailor Nikita Mitrofanov died on July 31 during the shipborne firing drill, reports press service of Western Military District. Crew of training ship Perekop assists the sailor's relatives in funeral activities which are to be financed by Russian Defense Ministry in accordance with the established procedure.

Naval base command provided meeting and accommodation to relatives of suffered sailors arriving to St. Petersburg from other regions.

At present, authorities prepare documents for insurance company in order to pay compensation to families of died and injured sailors.

Five sailors of training ship Perekop suffered during scheduled gun firing drill in the Gulf of Finland on July 31, 2012 as a result of explosion of a 30-mm shell. Wounded servicemen were promptly delivered to Kronshtadt Naval Hospital by a fast-speed boat. Conscript sailor Nikita Mitrofanov died of injuries in the hospital.

Investigative Dept of Western Military District initiated a criminal case on the basis of the incident happened onboard training ship Perekop.
