Russian Navy's Task Force Approaches Sardinia
15.08.2012
Ships of Russian Navy's interfleet task force are currently approaching Italian island Sardinia, reports Radio Mayak referring to Russian defense ministry's press service.
"Equipment and armament operate normally, crews act in accordance with cruise schedule. The task force recently held an exercise in the central part of the Mediterranean Sea", comments a defense ministry's spokesman. "The exercise was aimed at repelling of surprise air strike and terror attack upon the formation", he specified.
The task force consists of Northern Fleet landing ships Alexander Otrakovsky, Georgy Pobedonosets, Kondopoga, and Baltic Fleet frigates Yaroslav Mudry and Neustrashimy.
According to the representative of Russian defense ministry, in Wednesday morning the ships were located to the southwest from Italian island Sardinia, reports RIA Novosti.
