Plisetsk Space Center and a ship-repair plant in Severodvinsk may become popular tourist centers in Arkhangelsk region, reports Interfax referring to local governor Igor Orlov.

He pointed out at the press conference on Dec 14 that regional authorities were paying considerable attention to development of tourism. In particular, it is planned to adopt federal target-oriented program and develop Solovki in the next year. Additionally, Sura village, the place of birth of John Kronshtadtsky honored by Russian Orthodox Church, is being reconstructed.

Orlov emphasized that the local authorities were working not only on traditional tourism areas but trying to develop new directions.

"We have almost arranged foundation of the new tourist route in Severodvinsk. Tourists will have a chance to see a nuclear submarine on slipway... It will be also amazing to visit the Russia's only space center in Plisetsk. If I may say so, Cape Canaveral by no means compares to what is happening in Plisetsk!" the governor said.
