Fire raged in Arkhangelsk shipyard

Fire raged in Arkhangelsk shipyard 08.05.2008 A major fire has destroyed parts of the Zvezdochka shipyard in Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast. The shipyard is a key industrial plant in the region.

According to newspaper Pravda Severa, the fire destroyed about 200 meters of roof in one of the shipyard’s construction halls. It took the local fire brigade more than 2 hours to extinguish the fire which had huge proportions, the newspaper reports.

Zvezdochka is one of two major shipyards in Severodvinsk. The yard is thought to have an important role in the construction of vessels and oil rigs for the Russian petroleum industry.
