A ferry capsized in a river

A ferry capsized in a river in the central part of Vietnam on Sunday, killing at least 40m people, the AP news agency announced.

The tragedy took place in the River Gyan. Rescuers recovered 40 bodies from the waters, amongst them 27 women and 7 children. The ferry was a small one designed for only 12 passengers, while it reported had 80 people on board when it sank., a local police officer said.

On preliminary information, seven people thought to have been in the ferry are still reported as missing. Rescuers continue their search.
