The Russian antisubmarine vessel Admiral Vinogradov is escorting a convoy of three ships in the pirates-infested waters of the Horn of Africa, Igor Dygalo, an aide to the commander of the Russian Navy, told Ria Novosti.
“The Russian warship is at the moment escorting the Ukrainian ship Boris Babochkin, the Russian ship Cherkassi, and the Ocean Starling, a ship flying the flag of Grenada,” said Dygalo.
The Admiral Vinogradov will join the Russian-Indian exercises Indra-2009 scheduled in the Arabian Sea after completing the escort mission.
The Admiral Vinogradov completed the previous day the escort of a convoy of five ships: The Ocean Lane, flying the Liberian flag; the tanker Stault Confederation, flying the flag of the Cayman Islands; the tanker Maier Pheonix, flying the Singaporean flag; the Skalo, flying the Libyan flag; and the Stepan Dezhnev, under the Russian flag.
