The last stage of the Russian-Indian maneuvers Indra-2009 centered on the drilling of antipiracy actions in the western part of the Arabian Sea, Admiral Vladimir Vysotskiy, the commander of the Russian Navy, told Ria Novosti.

The first stage of the maneuvers took place between Jan 26 and Feb 1 in the eastern part of the Arabian Sea when the Russian missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky of the Northern Fleet and the Indian guided-missile destroyer INS Delhi took part in the first part of Indra-2009. The first stage of the exercises involved the practice of combat interoperability and communication.

The second stage of the maneuvers concluded yesterday. The second stage took place near the Somali coast and involved practicing joint antipiracy operations.

The Russian and Indian ships taking part in the exercises escorted ships in the Arabian Sea. They escorted civilian ships, according to Vysotskiy.
