The missile cruiser Moskva of the Russian Black Sea Fleet on Tuesday returned to its base in Sebastopol after completing a mission in the Mediterranean, an official from the Information Service of the Black Sea Fleet told Ria Novosti by telephone.

“The main task in the mission led by Guard Captain First Class Igor Smolyak was the visit of the Italian port of Messina, where the crew took part in celebrations marking the 100 anniversary of the earthquake that devastated Sicily and the province of Calabria,” the official said.

According to the mission commander, Captain First Class Sergey Zinchenko, the crew showed they were quick learners, given the fact that a third were conscripts who were at sea for the first time and handled their tasks wonderfully in the rough February weather of the Mediterranean.

The ship covered approximately 4,000 nautical miles during the mission.
