Russian Navy has begun receiving Komar turret installation

26.02.2009
The Russian turret installation Komar has successfully completed government tests and has now been installed on Russian Navy ships, Vladimir Baybakov, the general director of Ratep, the company that developed the system, told Interfax in an interview. He added that the question of further procurements had been taken into account in the government procurement program.

The modern turret installation for mobile air-defense missile complexes of the Igla type is one of the systems exhibited by Russian companies at the IDEX-2009 defense-products exhibition in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Its exhibition abroad was made possible after the Russian Defense Ministry gave the green light in December of last year.

Baybakov noted that the installation could also be sold abroad. Meetings have already taken place at the exhibition between executives of the Almaz-Antey concern and potential clients: such negotiations have been conducted with a Turkish military delegation.

Baybakov added that the market of turret installations was a very competitive one, because many analogous systems have appeared. But he stressed that the Russian installation Komar was not inferior to its foreign analogues and that, in some characteristics, was even better.
