More border guards for Yamal

More border guards for Yamal 10.06.2009
There is an urgent need for more border guards in the Yamal Peninsula, regional border control authorities say.

Although located thousands of kilometers away from the nearest foreign country, the Yamal Peninsula is part of the Russian border zone. Now, there is an urgent need for more border guards in the area, the participants in a recent meeting on border zone regulations concluded.

The main problem for the regional border guards is insufficient housing, offices and infrastructure, Fakttv.ru reports.

Yamal was included in the border zone in June 2006.

The far northern Yamal Peninsula is on top of the agenda for Gazprom which intends to open the 4,9 trillion cubic meter Bovanekovo gas field in 2011.
