12.09.2009 Source: RIA Novosti

Speaking about impending delivery of Russian 300-km range missiles, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez most probably meant antiship missile system Club, as reported to RIA Novosti by source in Russian military industrial complex.

Chavez visited Russia this week and mentioned about plans to deliver Russian tanks T-72, T-90, and high precision missiles as well.

"It looks like the question is coastal missile system Club designed for defeat of ground and sea-surface targets and ideal for multirole defense system", the source in MIC informed.

According to the expert's words, the system is capable to engage targets on the range of 300 km; missile flight altitude is 10-50 m; terminal velocity is up to 1 km per sec. Pre-firing and firing processes are automated.

The Club system launchers may be mounted on various chassis at a customer's discretion. The ground-based system comprises self-propelled launchers, command and liaison vehicles and maintenance vehicles.

The length of missiles used is 6-8 m, launch weight is about 2 t, payload weight is 200-400 kg.
