Russia Navy Commander-in-Chief introduces new Baltic Fleet Commander
12.09.2009 Navy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Federation admiral Vladimir Vysotsky introduced new Baltic Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Victor Chirkov to the fleet's key personnel in Baltic Fleet headquarters in Kaliningrad.
Chirkov had been holding a post of Chief of Staff and Baltic Fleet Deputy Commander and was appointed as Commander of that fleet by the Presidential Edict dated Sept, 8, 2009, Navy Commander said.
Vice Admiral Victor Marduhin, previous Baltic Fleet Commander was appointed as Deputy Chief of the General Staff Academy, informs ITAR-TASS.
Victor Chirkov was born on Sept, 8, 1959. In 1982 he graduated from Higher Naval School in Vladivostok. His commissioned service began from the post of torpedo officer on Pacific Fleet corvette. Then his posts were frigate commander, frigate squadron deputy chief of staff, squadron deputy commander and squadron commander.
In 2000 Chirkov graduated from the General Staff Academy and appointed as Chief of Staff and Vice Commander at northeast direction. Then he had been Primorskaya Flotilla Commander and in July, 2007 was appointed as Baltic Fleet Chief of Staff.
The Vice Admiral is awarded with Orders "For military service to the country" of III grade and "For military merit". He is married and has two children.
