Military industrial committee to discuss the creation of naval air-carrying system and parameters of governmental defense order for 2010
23.09.2009 Realization of the instruction to create Russian naval air-carrying system will be the focal point of military industrial committee session led by Vice Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov, said the source in vice premier's administration.
Creation of naval air-carrying system is one of the objectives of Navy weaponization program by 2015. The head of the state Dmitri Medvedev while visiting Severomorsk in October 2008 instructed Ministry of Defense to develop the construction program of air carriers with the plan to start it in nearest years. Only one air-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov is presently in service at Russian Navy.
As it was previously said by Navy Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Vysotsky, it is planned to create 5-6 groups of aircraft carriers in Northern and Pacific Fleets. Moreover, it is supposed to build not only aircraft carriers but "naval air-carrying systems" capable to provide interaction between ships, aviation, coastal objects and space. Currently, research activities of the first ship are in progress.
Sevmash shipyard is one of the main contenders to build air-carriers for the Navy.
According to vice premier's administration, main parameters of governmental defense order (GDO) for 2010 and planned period 2011-2012 are also to be discussed at the session. As it was previously said by Ivanov, the sum of governmental defense order for 2010 will make 1 109 bln rub, which is 1.2 % more than the GDO for 2009.
