Northern Fleet's DES Yaroslavl put afloat after dock repairs at Nerpa shipyard
25.09.2009 Northern Fleet's diesel-electric submarine (DES) B-808 Yaroslavl put afloat after dock repairs at Nerpa shipyard, Snezhnogorsk branch of Zvezdochka shipyard, said official from the parent enterprise's press-service.
"The DES has passed full-scale overhaul under the contract with Defense Ministry", said the press-service representative.
DES Yaroslavl was constructed in 1988 and was initially basing in the Black Sea Fleet. In 2007 it made an unofficial visit to the main Norwegian naval base Hokonsvern – for the first time in the history of bilateral relations.
Yaroslavl is 887EKM-project submarine developed in Rubin bureau of maritime technologies (St. Petersburg). Such DESs have displacement of 2 300 t, length of 72.6 m, underwater speed of 19 knots (about 35 kph), submergence depth of 300 m, crew of 52, and fuel endurance of 45 days. Armament is six 533-mm torpedo tubes.
