Ceremony at Krasin icebreaker
01.10.2009
The solemn distribution ceremony of memorial signs "Sailor's wife" was held at legendary Krasin icebreaker yesterday, on Sept 30 in St. Petersburg.
Memorial signs of Viktor Konetsky Maritime Literature Fund were given out to Era Avraamova – widow of Vice Admiral Georgy Avraamov (well-known naval dynast and former director of "Cruiser Aurora" museum), Elena Kolobkova - widow of Vladimir Kolobkov, captain of Faina (died last year in Somali), and Natalia Efanova, teacher of the city's only Marine class "Frigate" (school # 301).
The ceremony was led by Tatiana Akulova-Konetskaya, Director General of Viktor Konetsky Maritime Literature Fund. Honored Admiral Lev Chernavin, director of "Cruiser Aurora" museum gave out the memorial signs.
Representatives of various veteran and other organizations attending the ceremony remarked the importance of "steady rear" in a sailor's career – his wife, "battlemate" responsible for the family.
"Our Navy is presently on the kind of down-grade as it had been not once in the country's history. But every downhill was followed by uplift. Example, after Tsusima battle over 30 ships were built on people's money, and the fleet relived. Our Navy on the eve of such uplift and I believe my four great grandsons to be among lieutenants looking forward to being appointed on new ships!", said Era Avraamova.
