NS Yury Dolgoruky returned to Severodvinsk after sequent trial phase
08.10.2009 Nuclear-powered missile submarine Yury Dolgoruky has successfully completed sequent stage of sea trials in White Sea and returned to Sevmashpredpriyatie moorage wall in Severodvinsk, said the shipyard official to Interfax.
"Sequent trials stage had been conducted since Sept, 15. It showed that all defects revealed during the last sea trials were fully eliminated", said the interviewee.
Operation of submarine systems and equipment were also tested in action during sequent sea trials.
Some malfunctions were found in the course of inspection of Yury Dolgoruky at float dock Sukhona late July. Thanks to prompt work of experts, all defects were rapidly eliminated and the submarine was sent to coastal degaussing station (CDS). Electromagnetic treatment of Dolgoruky lasted several days. Magnetic field parameters of the submarine were brought to required level by the efforts of shipyard's experts, said plant's officials.
Lead ship of fourth generation strategic missile submarine Yury Dolgoruky was designed by Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering. Contract cost made 23 bln rub, including 9 bln rub for project development and 14 bln rub for construction.
Yury Dolgoruky (Project 955 Borei) has displacement of 14 700/24 000 t, dimensions 170 x 13.5 x 9 m, max submergence depth 450 m. Speed is 15/29 knots, crew is 107 men, including 55 officers.
Nuclear power plant was launched at Yury Dolgoruky late December 2008.
The submarine is supposed to be armed with Bulava-M missile system which tests are going to continue in 2009. According to media, about half of Bulava launches made from NS Dmitry Donskoy were unsuccessful.
Three newest missile submarines of Project 995 Borei are to be constructed in Severodvinsk by 2010. According to Navy command plans, strategic submarines of Project 955 are to become the basis of Russian naval strategic nuclear forces after 2018 when currently in-service subs of Project 941 (Akula, upon NATO classification – Typhoon), 667BDR and BRDM (Kalmar and Murena, upon NATO classification – Delta III and Delta IV) are withdrawn from operational use.
Project 955 missile submarines Alexander Nevsky and Vladimir Monomakh are currently under construction at the shipyard.
As for Navy Command, beginning with the fourth vessel of this project it is planned to develop reasonable variant of missile submarine which will be on service till 2035-2040.
