Russian "SEALS" yield to none

02.11.2009 Source: RIA Novosti

Russian Navy possesses Special Operations Forces which are highly competitive with US Navy's SEALS, said Vice Admiral Oleg Burtsev, Main Navy HQ Deputy Chief of Staff on Sat interview to Ekho Moskvy radio.

"We do have such special forces and we place high emphasis on them. Obviously, we plan to continue developing this matter", said Burtsev answering the question whether Russian Navy has any special purpose units ready to operate in three environments – sea, air and land like American SEAL.

"Our marines are not worse than American, and in some issues are even better", underlined Navy spokesman.

According to Mr. Burtsev, such forces are in service at all four RN Fleets: Black Sea, Northern, Pacific and Baltic ones.
