BSF secret service leaves Crimea
02.12.2009
Black Sea Fleet counterintelligence service quits its activities in Crimea. Special office has already left Sevastopol, security officers will be transferred to Novorossiysk. That was said Dec 1 by the source in Russian security agencies.
According to him, Russian counterintelligence has been lawfully deployed in Crimea; its presence was ratified by Ukraine, although Ukraine's attitude towards Russian agents has been worsened after Georgian-Ossetian conflict in August 2008. The head of Ukrainian Security Service Valentin Nalivaichenko had previously demanded to withdraw 19 Russian FSB officers and declared their functions to be executed by Ukrainian security officers. However, BSF Commander Vice Admiral Alexander Kletskov stated that Ukrainian officers would not be allowed to work at Russian ships and military units.
Ukrainian authorities make full-scale informational war against Russian counterintelligence; any Russophile action at Ukrainian territory appears in media as a subversion of Russian secret service, said the source. To avoid provocations, Russian security agencies decided to transfer special office to Novorossiysk at least until forthcoming elections in Ukraine are finished in January.
