Baltic shipyard Yantar has finished hull assembly of research vessel Seliger planned to be delivered to the orderer – Russian Ministry of Defense – in 2011, informed Thursday the shipyard's press-service.

"Jointing the sternmost section was the last phase of hull assembly. The ship's length is 59.7 meters, beam is 10.8 meters, displacement is about 1,100 tonnes", says press-release.

Research vessel Seliger is designed for conducting experimental researches; in particular, testing of hardware, oceanographic surveys, and participating in SR operations.

The Project 11982 vessel was laid down on July 8, 2009; hull assembly works lasted half a year.

"At present, the work on fitting and mounting of the ship's bulkhead is in progress. According to general shipbuilding schedule, Seliger is expected to be launched late 2010. Its delivery to the orderer – Ministry of Defense – is scheduled on 2011", says the shipyard's press-service.

Baltic shipyard Yantar was established in July 1945 on the basis of Koenigsberg shipyards Schichau. It is specialized in construction of light and intermediate tonnage naval and civil vessels as well as ship repair works. Since 1945 the shipyard has built 154 warships and over 500 civil vessels. Currently, OJSC Yantar's majority shareholder is government represented by OJSC Western Shipbuilding Center.
