Pierre Francois Forissier, French Navy Commander-in-Chief executed midday gunfire at Petropavlovskaya Fortress in St. Petersburg on Friday, informs RIA Novosti.

Traditionally, residents of St. Petersburg hear this gunfire at high noon.

French Navy CIC was given an artillery shell with inscription "In honor of friendship and cooperation between Russia and France on the threshold of 65th anniversary of the Great Victory".

Russian and French navies are among world's largest fleets, said Forissier in interview to RIA Novosti.

"Both Russian and French navies take part in international anti-piracy operation in Gulf of Aden", Forissier said.

French admiral pointed out that prospects for this cooperation are enormous, "our mariners can and must be friends at sea", said Forissier.

French Navy CIC is visiting Russia; on Thursday he took part in opening ceremony of exhibition dedicated to 100th anniversary of famous Soviet naval leader Sergei Gorshkov in St. Petersburg.
