Yasen-project sub to start trials in 2010

Yasen-project sub to start trials in 2010 22.03.2010
Trials of Yasen-class nuclear-powered attack submarine will be launched in 2010, said Oleg Burtsev, Deputy Chief of Navy Main HQ in interview to Ekho Moskvy radio station.

Russian Navy will get a new-gen submarine in 2011, reported Oleg Burtsev. According to Russian military, Yasen has no analogs in our country and in the world either.

Project 885 Yasen is Russian 4th generation nuclear-powered attack submarines armed with cruise missiles. Lead sub of the project, SSN Severodvinsk is being prepared for mooring trials.

The second sub – SSN Kazan – is being built under upgrade project Yasen-M. Initially, it was planned to construct series of 30 subs, then this number decreased to 5, afterwards there were reports of 6 or 7 subs.

Displacement of a Yasen-class sub is up to 9,000 tons; length is 120 meters.
