Russian naval pilots to be trained in Ukraine 30.03.2010
Northern Fleet's (NF) naval pilots will probably resume training at deck simulator NITKA in Crimea this summer. Nonetheless, the construction of same-type center in Yeisk (Krasnodar region) will be continued, reported Tuesday Interfax citing a military diplomatic source.

"Flights of deck-based fighters Su-33 from shipborne fighter wing can be started even in June or July", said the interviewee. According to him, "all issues in this connection have been already handled at the high level, so the final arrangements must be achieved in the nearest future".

The obvious thaw in Russo-Ukrainian relations by no means remove from agenda the construction of naval aviation training center in Yeisk, underlined the interviewee. "To Russia, this will ensure the training of naval pilots for heavy aircraft-carrying cruisers and being independent of political environment regularly changing in Ukraine".

Ground-based simulator for shipborne aviation NITKA is a special training system imitating carrier's deck. It is designed for training of deck takeoff and landing techniques. The simulator constitutes an airdrome with deck-type steel airfield equipped with ramp and arresters. The sizes of the airfield are equivalent to deck dimensions of NF heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov.
