Russian sailing ship Nadezhda will start a cruise around the Pacific Ocean in Dec 2010; the cruise is associated with APEC summit to be held in Vladivostok in 2012, informed Monday RIA Novosti citing Sergei Zaika, press secretary of Admiral Nevelsky State Maritime University which is the ship owning organization.
"In accordance with schedule approved by Ministry of Transport, the cruise will provisionally start in Dec 2010 – Jan 2011 and last over 300 days", said the director of university's press service.
During the cruise, Russian sailing ship will visit almost all APEC member countries, he added. The ship will call at somewhat 25 ports and finish the cruise at Niigata (Japan). According to Rosmorrechflot, the cruise expenses are evaluated as 200 mln RUR.
Member countries of APEC are: Australia, Brunei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Canada, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Russia, Singapore, the U.S., Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines, Chile, and Japan.
Russia's achievements in maritime, cultural, economic and social spheres will be demonstrated via the newest comm means and the Presidential Library mobile terminal during the ship's calls at foreign ports. It is also planned to conduct competitions in marine sports, joint concerts, and intellectual contests.
Research project "Pacific Cities of the World" is planned to be realized during the around-Pacific cruise; participants will collect materials about business, scientific and educational potentials of a city or country visited. After the cruise it is planned to publish a same-named book based on those materials.
"This year Nadezhda will carry out several training trips which are going to be a preparation for the forthcoming long-term cruise. Late April the sailing ship will head for Sakhalin, and then to Japan; in summer the ship will sail to Manila (Philippines)", added the interviewee.
Nautical biography of sailing ship Nadezhda contains dozens of expeditions and cruises to various regions of the World Ocean. In 2003 the ship sailed off Vladivostok to carry out global cruise devoted to 200th anniversary of first Russian around-the-world cruise performed by Ivan Kruzenshtern and Yury Lisiansky on sloops Nadezhda and Neva. Through 14 months of the cruise the ship covered about 45,000 nautical miles and visited 30 ports of 20 countries.
Nadezhda is multiple winner and awardee of international regattas.
