The federal government has approved a plan on the modernization of the Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk, northern Russia.

Sevmash General Director Nikolai Kalistratov got the formal government approval from Deputy Minister of Economic Development Andrey Klepach, a press release from the company reads.

According to the plan, Sevmash will undergo a technical upgrade and modernization of production. New production methods will be applied, among them construction with prefabricated large-blocks.

The modernization will turn the huge northern shipyard into modern ship building complex capable of providing successful and competitive military and other marine technology, the yard's specialists say.

Deputy Minister Klepach confirmed that "billions of rubles" will be generated for the yard in the modernization process.
