Russian Navy has no tasks for Mistral-type carriers – military expert
23.04.2010
Admiral Viktor Kravchenko, ex-chief of Russian Navy Main HQ speaks against procurement of French Mistral-type helicopter carriers for Russian Navy.
"As former Black Sea Fleet Commander and Chief of Navy Main HQ, I can't see any tasks for such ships in our Navy and much less in Black Sea Fleet. Where we would land our troops? Where such lunkers would be based? Sevastopol base could not accommodate ships of this class due to their enormous size. So what, they should always stay off the harbor?", asked the admiral having reminded that Mistral was originally designed to be used in the Mediterranean.
