Russian naval flag will be hoisted at newest 4-gen lead submarine St. Petersburg on May 9, said Roman Trotsenko, the head of United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).

"We have successfully completed state trials of Project 677 submarine named St. Petersburg; flag hoisting ceremony is scheduled on May 9", said Trotsenko meeting with Russian premier Vladimir Putin.

The 4-generation submarine was designed by JSC Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering. Project 677 Lada-class diesel electric submarine St. Petersburg has displacement of 1,765 tons; length of 67 meters; beam of 7.1 meters.

As for the USC leader, shipbuilders of St. Petersburg have done an immense work.

"This is a crucially new diesel electric submarine with new silence characteristics", he said.

"The sub's building was anything but simple; by commissioning this submarine, Russia achieves new perspectives in international military-technical cooperation", pointed out Trotsenko.

Full surface and submerged speed of the submarine makes 21 and 10 knots respectively. Operational range at cruising speed is 650 nautical miles. Endurance is 45 days. Test depth is 300 meters.

Subs of this project are designed for antisubmarine and antisurface warfare; defense of naval bases, seashore, and sea lines of communications; conducting reconnaissance.
