Russian sailing frigate Nadezhda conducting an exercise cruise over Pacific Ocean arrived to Sakhalin Island and moored at the port of Kholmsk, reported RIA Novosti citing representative of Maritime State University named after G.I. Nevelskoy which is the sailer's shipowner.

Frigate Nadezhda left Vladivostok on May 11 to hold exercise cruise over Pacific Ocean seas calling at ports of Kamchatka, Kuril Islands, and Sakhalin. This cruise opened annual international festival "The Young Captains of the Pacific".

"The program of visiting Sakhalin includes hosting of various excursions, official visit of the captain to Kholmsk city administration, tour to Kholmsk mountain pass and laying wreath to the mass grave", said the interviewee.

According to him, the training ship will stay three days at Sakhalin. On May 18 the frigate will leave Kholmsk and sail to Kamchatka, then to Kuril Islands. Afterwards, Nadezhda will return to Vladivostok and finally set course to Philippines.

"After returning to Vladivostok, Nadezhda is supposed to start another, longer cruise over Pacific Ocean. The sailer will head for Philippines and took part in the international festival "The Young Captains of the Pacific", said the interviewee.

In Dec 2010 frigate Nadezhda will start a new cruise over the Pacific; the trip is going to be associated with APEC summit to be held in Vladivostok in 2012. The sailer will visit over 20 APEC member countries and call at 25 ports proudly flying Russian flag.

Nautical biography of frigate Nadezhda includes dozens of expeditions and cruises worldwide. In 2003 the ship left Vladivostok for around-the-world cruise devoted to 200th anniversary of first Russian global expedition led by Ivan Kruzenshtern and Yury Lisiansky on sloops Nadezhda and Neva. Through 14 months of the cruise, the ship covered somewhat 45,000 nautical miles and visited 30 ports of 20 countries.
