In 2010 scope of ship-repair works at Yantar shipyard (Kaliningrad, Western Shipbuilding Center) will grow 1.5 times comparing to the last year – over 60 vessels of various types. According to the shipyard's press service, that is a consequence of tenders won for repair of Russian Navy and Frontier Service ships.
At present, Northern Fleet large landing ships Georgy Pobedonosets and Alexander Otrakovsky are in Baltiysk expecting for overhaul; Yantar will be assisted by another contractor – 33rd Ship Repair Plant. Overhaul of numerous rescue ships and auxiliary vessels are also scheduled. Works on first part of 12 coast guard ships are in progress.
Additionally, Yantar will continue repair of large landing ship Alexander Shabalin; late 2009 it was found out that the ship needs additional works.
Baltic shipyard Yantar was established on July 8, 1945 on the facilities of German yard F. Schichau. The shipyard is specializes in small- and medium-size warships and civil vessels, as well as conducting ship repair works. Through 65-year history, the yard has built 154 warships and over 500 civil vessels. Currently, major shareholder of JSC Yantar is governmental company JSC Western Shipbuilding Center which is subordinate to JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation.
