Russian shipyards by themselves are capable to build ships alike Mistral-type helicopter carriers, said Anatoly Tukov, Vice President of United Shipbuilding Corporation at international defense show KADEX-2010; the exhibition is being held at Kazakhstan's air base near Astana. According to the official, the only thing needed is state defense order. Anatoly Tukov named Sevmash, Admiralteyskie Verfi, and Yantar shipyards as companies capable to execute such work hands-down.

International exhibition of arms and military-technical hardware KADEX–2010 is held for the first time; it intends to demonstrate capabilities of Kazakhstan's defense industry, and to attract foreign manufacturers of military products. Over 200 companies from 20 countries take part in the exhibition.

Russian defense industry has quite strong competitive advantage at Kazakhstan's arms market, since armed forces of Kazakhstan are mostly equipped with Soviet- and Russian-made arms. Russia and Kazakhstan are partners under Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO); arms trade within this organization is conducted at special prices. Apart from various aerotechnics and ground-based weapons, Russia presented fast-speed missile, patrol, and landing boats, as well as series of Project 21632 Tornado small-size warships.
