Russian Navy will adopt surface ships of the new generation in 2011. Among them is Project 22350 lead frigate Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Gorshkov which will be launched from Severnaya Verf slipways in Oct 2010.

That was said by Andrei Fomichev, the shipyard's director general taking part in launching ceremony of the world's first-ever floating nuclear power plant Akademik Lomonosov.

The new frigate was developed by Northern Planning and Design Bureau for Russian Navy as littoral zone warship also capable to operate in open ocean. Displacement is 4,500 tons, operational range is over 4,000 nm.

Besides, Severnaya Verf shipyard builds first serial ship of Project 22350 named Admiral Flota Kasatonov and planned to join the Navy in 2012.

As was said by the shipyard's director, sea trials of first serial corvette Soobrazitelny launched in March are scheduled in Oct-Dec 2010.

The Project 20380 corvette is the second out of four ships being built at the shipyard by order of Russian Navy (corvette Stereguschiy was the lead one). The ship was laid down in May 2003.

Third order is corvette Boiky laid down in July 2005, fourth one is corvette Stoiky laid down in Nov 2006.

Project 20380 was developed by Almaz Design Bureau (St. Petersburg) and meant for littoral zone operations, antiship and antisubmarine warfare, and artillery support of landing operations.

The ship's displacement is 2,000 tons, length is 100 meters, beam is 13 meters, operational range is 4,000 nautical miles, crew is 100 (including helicopter maintenance group).

The corvette can be armed with 100-mm multipurpose artillery systems, Kashtan antiaircraft gun/missile system, supersonic missiles capable to hit low-altitude targets at a distance up to 10 km, and two AK-630 automatic gun mounts.

St. Petersburg's shipbuilders have actively engaged in the program of fundamental modernization of Russian Navy. Severnaya Verf is specialized in building of surface ships, and Admiralteyskie Verfi – submarines; all of them will become a basis of the Navy within the nearest 10-20 years, reports ITAR-TASS.
