SLBM Sineva was successfully tested
09.08.2010
Test launch of SLBM Sineva was carried out by a Northern Fleet's strategic submarine, reports RIA Novosti referring to Russian Navy officials.
Being on station, a nuclear ballistic missile submarine (Project 667BDRM Delfin) on Aug 6 launched modernized SLBM Sineva at a distance of 10,000 km against Kura Range, Far East.
Warheads of RSM-54 (Sineva) hit a hypothetical target. The basic weapon of Russia's naval strategic nuclear force has successfully accomplished training task, underlined the Navy source.
News agency Interfax specifies referring to defense ministry's official representatives that test launch of two ballistic missiles was carried out by SSBN Tula.
Intercontinental three-staged tandem ballistic missile RSM-54 Sineva is a part of missile system D-9RMU2. The system D-9RM and missile RSM-54 was commissioned in 1986. In 1996 the production of RSM-54 was shut down.
In 1999 it was decided to resume manufacturing of upgraded variant of RSM-54 Sineva. Modernized missile successfully passed flight tests and was commissioned into Russian Navy in July 2007.
