Destroyer Admiral Chabanenko Returned to Severomorsk

24.05.2012 Destroyer Admiral Chabanenko on May 23 returned to Northern Fleet (NF) main base Severomorsk after the Pomor-2012 joint Russo-Norwegian naval exercise.

Having successfully accomplished tasks of the international exercise, the crew of Admiral Chabanenko was met by commanding officers of Northern Fleet and Kola Flotilla. The Russian destroyer left Norwegian port Bodø on May 18 and has covered over 1,000 nautical miles through stormy regions of the Norwegian and the Barents seas.

Admiral Chabanenko left Severomorsk on May 11 accompanied by Norwegian frigate Fridtjof Nansen and set a course for the exercise area. Operational interaction and anti-piracy drills were held throughout the whole way to Bodø, both in the Barents and Norwegian seas.

During the exercise, destroyer Admiral Chabanenko left behind over 2,000 nautical miles. Totally, participants of the exercise have effectively performed over 20 drills, including practical firings by shipborne guns and crews' small arms.

The exercise was summarized in Bodø on board destroyer Admiral Chabanenko under direction of NF Deputy Commander RADM Andrei Volozhinsky and Norwegian Joint Headquarters Deputy Commander Major General Morten Haga Lunde.

Both parties were satisfied with the exercise results and pointed out importance of improving Russian-Norwegian naval partnership. The next joint exercise in the Arctic attended by Russian and Norwegian naval mariners will be Northern Eagle 2012. American servicemen will take part in that exercise as well.
