One Sailor Died, Four Injured at Firing Drills in Kronshtadt 02.08.2012

One sailor died and four were injured at firing drills in Kronshtadt near St. Petersburg, reports online Fontanka.Ru on Aug 1, 2012 referring to own sources.

The incident happened on Tuesday, July 31. According to the news agency, the servicemen suffered when they got on the deck of training ship Perekop to take pictures during the gun firing drills. It was also reported about explosion of the shipborne shell.

Among sufferers, there were both conscript sailors and contracted personnel, reports Fontanka.Ru. Although a source of RIA Novosti said that was a corvette, Perekop is a training ship.

Military Procuracy confirmed the incident and told RIA Novosti that a criminal case had been initiated in accordance with Article 349, RF Criminal Code (violation of arms handling rules posing serious hazard to people).

Besides, Military Procuracy holds investigation to find out whether the firing drills were arranged properly, added the interviewee.
